Y’all it has been crazy in the Smith home! Thanks for being patient with me while I took care of my sick baby. He has been getting better and better since Sunday and I finally feel like I have my little monkey back! PS he also knows what sound a monkey makes and it’s freakin adorable! Thank you so much to everyone who called, messaged or texted me about him. I appreciate your love!
Since he is feeling better, I have been taking full advantage of starting some fun Easter activities. Today, I wanted to share two easy and fun activities that are perfect for your busy toddler this spring!
Have you ever seen a toddler decorate a sugar cookie? It is such a fun way for kids to get involved in the kitchen and express some creativity. BUT, I will always and forever think of my nephew decorating his Christmas tree sugar cookie with globs of icing, sprinkles and Skittles. When he finished, everyone just stared to see if he was really going to eat it! he did Definitely the family comedian!
Back around Valentine’s Day our favorite party shop, Bobee, shared a new way to decorate sugar cookies – check our collaboration with them here! Ryker is still learning fine motor skills so we borrowed their tips to hack sugar cookie decorating for EASTER! Painting cookies with our friends turned out to be hilarious and so much fun. It is a great activity that you could do for any holiday, birthday or play date! After picking your shape (we did Easter Eggs!) pre-frost a thin layer of icing. We laid down our Gathre mats that collect all things we love and some things we don’t. Messes happen and being the little ocd modern mama I am, I’m always looking for hacks to help ease my mind and allow my kiddo to feel free. These wipeable mats do just that and look amazing hanging in our home.
We set out the food coloring, cookies, and brushes and our little ones went to town. It doesn’t need to be extravagant to be entertaining. I try to let Ryker do a lot by himself. In my mind I imagined cute polka dots but it really just ended with a smorgasbord of color and that really is just fine!
My second favorite activity is a day at the park. Ry and I spend a lot of time outside together and as a family. We are still going strong on our 2017 resolution to spend the weekends outdoors. Heading to the park for a picnic feels simple to us. I pack a few snacks in our diaper bag, toss in our favorite Gathre mat and we are off (we have this highchair mat in cinder).
There are a ton of ducks and birds at the city park by our house. We aren’t suppose to feed them… but mums the word 🙂 Ry chases them around, we swing on the playground and spend a good couple of hours enjoying the spring weather. The first time I went to the park, my blanket got all wet and I was worried about his milk spilling but Gathre makes quality leather mats that wipe clean. Genius. They fold up so small which is great because the last thing any mom wants to do is lug around a huge blanket with a diaper bag and toddler in tow.
I hope you find ways to spend this Easter season enjoying spring! Let me know your favorite ways to share it with your little ones 🙂
