Honestly, not my best time for a few reasons but hey I got up before the sun and sweated it out in the 100 degree Arizona summer! I love running and the mental push that it gives you but here is a little pro tip… know how long the race is before you start.:/
Usually, I sign up for 5k runs throughout the year and so when I saw this Arizona Road Racers Summer Series on my calendar I made the assumption that it was another 5k. Well when I race past the 3 mile mark and saw the water station my mind started thinking. “why in the world would they have a water station just 0.1 miles from the finish?” That’s when it clicked that I had another mile to go. I can confidently say I was glad that it wasn’t a 10k because I was beat but I had a blast. I ran a 45:13 or 11:13 mile which is quite slow for me but I was coming off the flu the week before so I will take it.
ARR puts on a great race and had hotdogs, burgers, watermelon and waters at the finish line. A little too early for my taste at 7:30am but still a cool idea. I loved all the red, white and blue and probably need to step up my game next year.
The course was pretty much sidewalk/trail in Rio Vista Park. I prefer dirt terrain but overall liked the event and they were perfectly organized.
