I made a goal to read 20 books in 2018 + I DID IT!
Here are my recaps:
1. The 5 Love Languages – Gary Chapman
I loved learning mine and Cam’s love languages and I think it really helped us in our marriage this year also we learned that our love languages change which has been fun!
2. The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – Marie Kondo
Legit the best book if you want to learn how to start minimizing your house and the things that you buy learning how to declutter and organize your space so that it brings you joy! Coincidentally ‘Joy’ is our word of the year for 2019!!
3. Before It’s Too Late – Stanton E. Samenow
This book had a lot of good information on looking for ways to teach your children about rules, responsibilities and discipline.
4. Girl Wash Your Face – Rachel Hollis
If you haven’t hopped on board the party bus and read this book- it is life-changing! I posted it separately because it was absolutely one of my favorite reads of 2018! When we were in the nicu for a week with Riggs, one of my nurses that I had for several nights was reading it and I would go in when he was the only baby in there and we would sit and talk about this book. She convinced me to read it and I’m so glad I did!
5. Party Girl – Rachel Hollis
This was book one of a three-part series that the author of ‘girl wash your face’ wrote several years back. It’s about her time as a party planner with the elite of Hollywood and just a fun easy light read!
6. Sweet Girl – Rachel Hollis
Book 2 in the series
7. Smart Girl – Rachel Hollis
Book 3 in the series
8. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
I loved the movie and had to read the book!
9. Bringing Up Boys – James C. Dobson
Would recommend this to any mama that has a son!
10. You Are a Badass – Jen Sincero
Sorry for the cussing but this book kicks your booty into shape and makes you think about what is holding you back!
11. Bringing Up Bebe – Pamela Druckerman
Learning how the French parent their children gave me a lot of insight into working with ways to get Ryker to eat more foods!
12. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han
Haven’t watch the Netflix movie yet but cute book.
13. Whiskey in a Teacup – Reese Witherspoon
My southern heart is on fire everything about this book reminds me of home!!
14. Present over Perfect – Shauna Niequist
OK almost added this to the top two books that I recommend! Definitely honorable mention because I quote this book to almost every single person that I come in contact with and will probably read it again this year.
15. Confessions of a Domestic Failure – Bunmi Laditan
If you are a mom, read this book it will make you laugh till you cry or pee or both! The author sums up motherhood perfectly and made me feel like I wasn’t alone as I changed tons of poopy diapers with my sweatpants and topknot!
16. Talking as Fast as I Can – Lauren Graham
My girl Lorelai. How could I not read this?
17. Home Body – Joanna Gaines
Again. Do I need an explanation?
18. Before We Were Yours – Lisa Wingate
This book definitely surprised me and is actually partially based in my hometown which I thought was super cool! I recommended this book to my Dad and he already finished and loved it!! Also based on a true story which is crazy.
19. The Book of Mormon
Yes, this is a religious book but it is a book incredibly important to me and Another Testament of the life of our savior, Jesus Christ. It is the keystone of my faith and something that has brought me so much comfort throughout my life.
20. The Gift of Giving Life
This is my second most recommended book especially if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby in the near future. As some of you know I had antenatal depression while I was pregnant with Riggs, meaning that like postpartum depression after your baby is born, I had depression before and during my pregnancy because of the multiple miscarriages we had recently went through. I was searching and striving for a more spiritual experience and this book brought me so much peace during my pregnancy I honestly can’t recommend a better tool if you’re looking for comfort with anything surrounding birth.
